The Bad guys is a children’s book series that has had wild success in Australia and abroad. I was contracted by Red Tractor creative to create this 1 min trailer for the latest book by author Aaron Blabey.
I was supplied each page of the book as an illustration which I then broke down into individual elements so that I can bring them to life through animation. This process is long and tedious but I think the results speak for themselves. The sound design, music and voice over all really make it sing!
My editing philosophy is simple. Where possible, evoke an emotional response. That is what I set out to do with this clip for Rugby Australia. I cut this video for Chuck Edgeworth productions in December and I have been anxious since to share it. I created this story with no storyboard and no script, only the footage and interviews provided.
I love getting editing work from talented DOP’s like Stuart Edgeworth Seton-Wilkinson. A talented DOP will give you all the shots you need to lay out a narrative and a DOP that trusts you will let you decide how the story will be told. It’s like opening a photo album of stills and seeing the endless ways that you can order them to evoke the emotion in the story whether it be joy or despair, or in the case of Kim’s story, dignity and honor.
The delicate piano effortlessly carries the slow and static opening shots of Kim and as it flourishes into rippling arpeggios the vision to becomes more active and alive. After listening through the 30-40 minutes of Kim’s interviews, I really believe that rugby has the same effect in her life. A thriving and exciting passion that gives Kim the ability to strive for something bigger.
Al Mcglashan travels the world doing what he loves. Fishing. When he joined forces with his new sponsor Mercury, I was commissioned to create a short promotional piece for the outboard engine company. I was given 4 seasons of Al’s TV show, Fishing with Mates, to search through and pick out some of the beautiful locations from around the world that Al has adventured too. Together with Al we came up with the copy that would lead to the Mercury tagline “Go Boldly”. Post Op group did the final colour grade and the results speak for them self.
In November 2017 I was hired to edit this Qantas "My Town" project. Film makers from around rural parts of Australia entered a competition in which they were tasked to create a small film highlighting what they loved about their town. Chris from Tamworth ending up winning the competition and Qantas sent a film crew to his home town to create a new film staring him and his friends. Chris Benny was the DOP and he did and amazing job shooting on RED and capturing amazing aerials with the DJI Inspire with Zenmuse camera. A lot of the shots were captured on a vehicle mounted gimbal which created the amazing tracking, dolly and panning shots.
Often clients will approach me wanting video content but may not always be sure on how they are going to use it. When Jason from Digital Village ask me to create a short hype video for his websites landing page I was delighted at the opportunity to create something from scratch. Jason wanted the video to communicate what basic needs we have and what digital Village offers in terms of lifestyle flexibility and freedom. We didn't have a big budget to work with so I complied this video entirely from stock footage. Digital Village is an online community for freelancers to come together and work as teams on exciting projects from anywhere around the globe.
This Elements of Byron "family holiday" video was shot by DOP Nicholas Price through Medium Rare agency. I had the pleasure of editing together log footage from the Sony F5 and Phantom 4 drone.
This video masterfully connects with viewers by emphasizing the emotional bond between family and the pursuit to make moments together have lasting value. Through stunning visuals and relatable storytelling, it highlights how spending time away from everyday life offers sense of freedom. By portraying a desirable lifestyle and creating a strong, relatable connection the video helps the Elements of Byron resonate on both a practical and emotional level.
